1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They are equipped with motors that are top-of-the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the top model), they use smart mapping to create detailed floorplans that avoid obstacles like furniture leg. They also feature carpet boost, a feature that increases the robot's power when it sees the presence of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned up quickly.
Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our bare floor tests and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.
It's still a great deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of bare floors and you want to save some money. It's also quiet and can be used while you're at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.
This high-performance automatic vacuum cleaner and mop and mop uses sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and ensure better cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.
You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the task of cleaning a whole home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on a variety of flooring and rooms with different flooring types including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was excellent, and it avoided fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles cables.
It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we haven't seen in other robot vacuum mop cleaner robot/mop combos.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks much like a Roomba model than the bulky models of the competition. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings prior to work or at night when you are trying to sleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and some additional cost this is a capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner comes with an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also comes with an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house depending on how dirty the areas are.
If you have a bigger home, you should consider selecting a robot that comes with the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. If you have furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. For families that are busy, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be very beneficial.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would expect from its price tag. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that is washable.
The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app also provides access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans the area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it's more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we have tested. It also has an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
