1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've tested. They have motors that are top-of-the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. As with other top iRobot models (including the top choice) they utilize intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with the feature of Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept at cleaning dog hair. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can work when you're at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. If you need to, the mopping pad can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

However, it's not equipped with the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could clean an entire home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms with various flooring types, such as certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score 100% in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on the amount of dirt they tend to be.

Finally a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It is a good vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a reciprocating motion that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for robots that we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as an auto vacuum and mop-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
