WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boost in specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of the item level upgrade by +3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variation (like Eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be visited anytime to upgrade items your gear. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current level of the gear being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than buying new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar Item Level Upgrade will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items which can be used to upgrade weapons and tools, armor and accessories. They are purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for different currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon, or armor. button, which will display a preview of the item when it is upgraded if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item and the current item level. For example, weapons will cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Item upgraders can be found in a variety of locations on the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no item upgrader available at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades require various methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with several new features added. Once an upgrade has been completed to a certain level of item for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level upgrade level, will cost less. This is even if those items come from a different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed to upgrade is reduced and the discount is affixed to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is reduced also, but is only available after certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW players have a variety of options. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

First, you should know that Crests are only available to equipment that is of a certain rank. Each rank comes with an upgrade path that is different. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade can require up to 20 crests, contingent on the kind of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean engaging in outdoor activities or taking on dungeons and raids of all difficulty levels to obtain lower-level gear or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too difficult however, the system introduces some changes to the overall upgrade item process. Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This is to allow players to get their equipment to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests only have one usage and it's crucial to use them properly. For instance, it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests with the best gear you have available, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan on making. This is particularly applicable to trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to benefit from the account-wide discount when all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
