The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks much like a Roomba unit than the boxy models from the rivals. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with a simple mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's a noisy unit that could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to sleep.
It's also a bit costly, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing some more volume and some additional cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top rivals. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app also gives access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
