Sets
A set is a group of objects that share common attributes (like the number of eggs in a dozen, or the members of a class). Sets can be used to perform operations such as union, intersection and distinction.
Upgrades can make a set better than before. This means that weapons and armor will have a higher defense value and lower requirement for strength.
Upgrades can bring popular items from single sets to the same level as those in higher-level sets. Upgrades like Guillaume's Face Helm to an Elite Spired helmet will increase the defense from 217 to 321 and decrease the strength requirements and level requirements to a more acceptable range.
It's important to remember that not all items in the set are suitable for upgrading. Certain sets, such as the FB Sorc Whistan's shield or Naj's puzzlers are Exceptional in their own rights and don't require upgrading. On the other hand, certain items that are BiS and see frequent use (like Goldwrap) may benefit from being upgraded to increase their performance even more. It may be worth it to upgrade these items.
