The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept at cleaning hair from dogs. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great deal for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used while you're at work, or going to school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. If you need to, the mopping pad can be changed for a wet one in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to take off and extend its mops. This will help prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is ideal for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to clean an entire home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a decent cleaning job on a variety of floors and rooms with different flooring types including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was superb, and it avoided fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxy units this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most appealing looking in our tests. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot vacuums with mop that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the only robot automatic vacuum and mop robot/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a mix of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite loud that could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however, it's more expensive and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to the amount of dirt they tend to be.

For bigger homes, it's worth opting for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one specific area of your home using the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you have a lot furniture. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would imagine from its price. It vacuums well, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a powerful suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like adorable eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also has an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
