The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and it will leave your floors spotless. Its low cost and top-of-the-line features (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

Make sure to check your robot's brushes frequently for tangled debris and hair. Wash them if needed. Some models will automatically empty their dust bin on board into a larger bin at the base, which reduces the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They feature motors that are top-of-the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. And, like other premium iRobot models (including the top pick) they utilize intelligent mapping technology to create precise floor plans and eliminate home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature a feature called Carpet Boost that boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet They are also adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can work while you're at work or going to school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features strong suction and an automatic vacuum and mop robot bin for emptying. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to offer better cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a carpeted room which prevents cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to sweep the entire house, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did a good job of cleaning a mix of rooms and floors with mixed flooring types, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically emptys into its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy models from the rivals. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device that could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however it's more expensive and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot hoover and mop vacuum and mop. It has a range of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, as well as washes and dries mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home based on how dirty those areas are.

For larger houses it's worth looking for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your home using the app or voice controls. If you have furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. Finally the recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app also provides access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuum cleaner reviews vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a powerful suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also set up a spot cleaning that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like adorable eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we've test. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
