WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. A random extra substat is also increased with each upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less valuable for the latter due to the need to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item upgrader kit used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader at least once every couple of weeks to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the item level, however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new gear. For instance, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that are used to upgrade weapons, tools, armor, and other items. They can be bought by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. button, which will display an image of the item at the next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For example, weapons will cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currency types.

Item upgraders can be found in a variety of locations, including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and the chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded, and can be increased by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no item upgrader available at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade require several methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. When a player has an upgrade to a certain item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading additional items to the same level will be less expensive, even when they are part of a different gear set.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is reduced too, but it is only available when certain milestones are reached.

Crests

Players have several options for upgrading their gear in WoW. They can make use of Flightstones which are a general upgrade currency that is available to everyone, or crests, which are more specialized and consumed during upgrades at specific item levels. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only available for gear of a certain rank. Each rank comes with an upgrade path that is different. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the more complex one may require as many as 20 crests depending on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be by engaging in outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in all difficulties to get lower-level gear or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with heroic difficulty for endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an item upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and paths.

The use of these currencies isn't too complicated however, the system introduces some changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, when a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade items for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible level on all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests only have one usage, so it's important to make use of them in a responsible manner. It's best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the best gear that you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly true for items like trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, that will be able to avail the account-wide discount when all slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
