Item upgrade, also referred to as "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment results in a linear increase in a given stat.

Players can recycle up to six items at a time to gain a level gauge for each of the item's upgraded components. The cost of recycling items scales depending on their rarity and level.

Upgrade components

In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade to an item is a method to boost the stats of your weapon and armor. This can be achieved through a number of means that include the use of upgrade components and also upgrading an item's mark level or rarity. Additionally, many items can be reforged, which could boost their stats even more.

Upgradeable items are available throughout the game, both around the world and as rewards for missions. They can also be crafted by players. Upgrade components are the main way to upgrade equipment.
