The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's a noisy unit, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to sleep.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.
Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to how dirty they are.
For bigger homes, it's worth opting for models with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house using the app or voice controls.
