It's also prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.
It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used when you're at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's loud that could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you attempt to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and more attractive. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and some extra cost it's a efficient two-in-one device that should please almost everyone.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to guide you through the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app also gives access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
