The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention, and will leave your floors spotless. Its price is surprisingly low and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are pluses.

Examine your robot's brush regularly for tangled debris and hair. Wash them when necessary. Some models will automatically empty their onboard dust bin into a larger one at the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can produce up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobots (including the most powerful model) they utilize smart mapping to produce precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost, a feature that increases the robot's power when it sees an abundance of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept in cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also quiet and works while you're at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. If you need to, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance autonomous vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and offer better cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones using the app that is well-designed. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to take off and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean the entire house with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a great cleaning job on different rooms and floors with various flooring types including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was great and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums it, something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that appears much like a Roomba model than the boxy units of the competitors. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has 100% in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with a simple mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's a noisy unit, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and look better. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however, it's more expensive and create more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum reviews vacuum and mop with many advanced features that let you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite foolproof in our testing and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also comes with an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house depending on how dirty these areas are.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose one with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your house by using the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you have a number of furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to create an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas to improve performance. The app also gives access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is louder than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
