WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the item level by +3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

The upgraded gear typically has a greater value for trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of armor or weapons. The item upgrading used to upgrade the Item level Upgrade will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

The cost of upgrading will depend on the current item upgrade level of the equipment being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For instance, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will display the item's next upgrade level when there are enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item upgrader mod and the current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currency types.

Many locations have upgraders for their items in addition to the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and a possibility of getting a new recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade require various methods that are both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with numerous new features added. Once a player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This is true even if those items are from another set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be used on equipment of a particular rank, and each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and simplest upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the more complex one requires as many as 20 crests depending on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean engaging in outdoor activities or taking on dungeons and raids of any difficulty to earn lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't that difficult however, the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece of equipment has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest level possible for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests only have one use therefore it's essential to use them wisely. For instance, it's best to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the best equipment you have and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning on making. This is especially relevant for items like trinkets and rings that fill multiple slots. The discount for the entire account will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
