1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobots (including the most powerful model) they employ smart mapping to produce precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like furniture leg. The robots also come with a feature called Carpet Boost that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our first choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.
Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and operates while you're at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum cleaner and mop robot vacuum for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to offer better cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.
If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to remove and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross-contamination. The flex arm can be utilized to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to clean an entire home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did a great job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms with different flooring types, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it stayed clear of fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
This robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competition. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.
As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient however it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, as well as washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however, it wasn't reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house depending on how dirty these areas tend to be.
If you have a bigger home, you should consider choosing a model that has zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home must be cleaned using the app or voice control. A stairway mode is useful if you own a lot furniture. For families that are busy, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be extremely useful.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you might expect from its price tag. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that is washable.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to create the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app also grants access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and a small base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
