WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you boosts in specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random additional substat is also added to every upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees greater value for trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or very high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for the latter due to the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of armor or weapons. However, the item used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current level of the item being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that are used to upgrade weapons and tools, armor and other items. They can be purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be used on any weapon or tool with a The button will show the item's next level of upgrade, in the event that there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and current item level and the weapon's price is higher than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. After an item upgrading has been upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Item upgraders can be found in a variety of locations including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases depending on the amount of items that are being upgraded. It can also be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only available through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit and a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with some new features added. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a certain level for an Item level upgrade in an armor slot, upgrading other items to that level will cost less, even in the event that they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is account-wide. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a variety of choices. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be spent on gear of a specific rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons to obtain endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade item steps and routes.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, however it does bring some modifications to the upgrade process. Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests have one usage, so it's important to use them properly. It is Best item upgrade to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the highest-quality gear you can locate and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially true for items like rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character which will only be able to avail the account-wide discount when all of the slots are full of high-quality gear.
