In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may also choose which stats to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges of an item are based on the item level, but all items are guaranteed to have at least one stat within that range, unless it is an exclusive item or an item that is a God roll from a boss of a raid.

Another thing that could be changed is the option to upgrade equipment without having to reroll attaches, or select which stats to enhance. But as with base equipment, this would have to be carried out on a per-item basis and the interface for comparing items wouldn't show all possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the chances of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops and the intensity of these properties. It does not, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players an opportunity to get better gear earlier in the game. This is more useful for early game runs, because players tend to put defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chance of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading that increases with each level of the item and can be further increased by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, shields, and armor can spawn or be crafted with the Luck property, which has the default value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant a further +40 Luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Moreover, certain items, like the Hollow infused weapon, can be equipped to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be found in the shop or created by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are costly and not all upgrades will be successful. However, there are cash shop items which allow players to increase their chance of success or stop themselves from losing an item if the upgrade fails.

When you upgrade an item, the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading that item, and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased so much, and the likelihood that the upgrade will fail cannot be greater than 100%..

The luck of an item can also influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has a base success rate of 25%, and each item upgrading with Luck increases that chance by an additional five percent.
