Upgrades can increase the power of a piece and sometimes even its extras. The value of these upgrades is determined by their tiers, requirements and the number of random augmentations that are applied.
The elite racial Shield Razortail for instance, is usually upgraded to improve its lightning absorption capabilities in PvP and/or add additional defenses to missile-based builds in the PvM. This makes it more tradeable over the original version that is not upgraded.
Reroll Tokens
Reroll tokens can be used to reroll an acquired item, such as an armor, weapon, or rings. The item is swapped for one of the same type with a different set of extra bonuses. Reroll tokens can be an economical method of upgrading equipment. However, they do not retain the quality of the original item and any resources that are wasted will not be refunded.
The survivors can acquire reroll tokens via a variety of methods such as the Mistery Box or as rare drops from skulled creatures. They can be found in crates and chests, or purchased from the store at a cost of 150k each. Reroll tokens are used to change the attribute of an item of equipment for example, increasing the damage it can cause.

The Upgrade Station comes with two slots: the left is where players can place a piece of equipment to be upgraded, while the right slot shows a preview of what the equipment will look like once it is at its next level. A piece of equipment can be upgraded a maximum of five times. Each time it is upgraded the stats of the base item will increase by a small amount. The maximum level for an item is 19.

Upgrades can be beneficial for certain items, but not because they increase stats. They are more valuable to players if they can get the perfect roll. A perfect-rolled 200/6 500 armor set piece, for example is highly sought-after by the melee PvP communities and can be worth as much as 20-50 times the value of an unupp'd counterpart.
