WoW Upgrades - The item upgrades Upgrader

Upgrades give you boosts in certain statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of the item by +3. A random substat is also increased with each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every couple of weeks to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current item level of the item level upgrade being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than buying new equipment from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item level upgrade will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that can be used to improve the quality of weapons tools, armor, and other items. They can be purchased by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any tool, weapon or armor. The button will show a preview of an item Level Upgrade's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and the current level of the item as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Upgraders for items can be found at many locations on the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and the chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require a variety of means which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features were added to the upgrade system. After a player has earned an upgrade to a specific level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading additional items to that level will be less expensive, even if they are part of an entirely different set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is cut as well, but is only available when certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

Players have several options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

First, you must be aware that Crests are only available to equipment that is of a certain rank. Each rank comes with a different upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complex may require as many as 20 crests, based on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with all difficulty for items of higher tier, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons to obtain endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, however it does bring some modifications to the upgrade process. Once a piece of gear reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they are only used for one purpose. It's best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the best gear that you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially relevant for items like trinkets and rings that fill several slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
