WoW Upgrades - The item upgrade Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random substat is also added to each upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees more value in trade regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades are not as useful for those with lower requirements due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of armor or weapons. However, the item used for the upgrade will remain in use for a long time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and is accessible anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks, to keep your equipment up to date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item, but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. Players can purchase them from Best item upgrade upgraders NPCs for a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any tool, weapon or armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next upgrade level when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. After an item upgrading has been upgraded to a certain level and is degraded, it can be sold and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.

Item upgraders can be found at many locations including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and the chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no item upgrader available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are only available through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, a number of new features were added to the upgrade system. After a player has earned an upgrade to a certain level of an Item Level Upgrade for a specific armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less, even if they are part of a different gear set.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a few options. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be used on gear of a specific rank, and each rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complex requires as many as 20 crests depending on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level. This could be done by engaging in outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in any difficulty to earn lower-level gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. These crests can be exchanged with an item upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and routes.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, however it will bring some changes to the process of upgrading. Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible ilvl on all of their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests have one usage, so it's important to make use of them in a responsible manner. For instance it's a good idea to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment you have, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning to create. This is especially relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which will only be able to benefit from the account-wide discount when all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
