WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases item level by +3. A random substat is also increased with each upgrade items.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item upgrade has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as useful for the latter due to the need to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of armor or weapons. However, the item that is used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the item level, however they'll always be less expensive than purchasing new gear. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items which can be used to level up weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. Players can purchase them from item upgraders NPCs for a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will display a preview of an item's next upgrade level, in the event that there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and the current item upgrader mod (Rogers-Sharp-3.federatedjournals.Com) level, with weapons costing more than bracers or gloves, for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Many locations have upgraders for their items in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the possibility of obtaining a new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require various methods which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a specific item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading additional items to the same level will cost less even if they belong to another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is affixed to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a few choices. They can make use of Flightstones that are a general upgrade currency that is available to everyone, or crests, which are more specialized and used to upgrade specific levels of the item. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests are only able to be spent on equipment that is of a particular rank, and every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade items path costs 15 crests, while the most complicated may require as many as 20 crests depending on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through tasks at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in all difficulties to get equipment of lower tier or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with heroic difficulty for endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't too difficult, but the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. Once a piece of gear has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests with care, since they are only used for one purpose. For instance, it's best to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the best equipment you have, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly applicable to rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to take advantage of the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are full of high-quality gear.
