The best robot hoover (look at here now)

The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention. It will leave your floors spotless. Its low cost and top-of-the-line features (such as dirt detectors) are both positives.

Be sure to regularly inspect your robot's brushes for hair that is tangled as well as large debris, and wash them when needed. Some models will automatically empty their onboard dust bin into a larger one at the base, which reduces the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have examined. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can produce up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobots (including the most powerful model), they use smart mapping to create detailed floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like cords and furniture leg. They also come with carpet boost, a feature that boosts the robot's performance when it detects a lot of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned up quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept at cleaning hair from dogs. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our top option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good deal particularly if your home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and operates while you are at work or in school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to a dry one in minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot cleaner robot vacuum for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and offer better cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning robot mop and vacuum schedule. Its battery life is average compared to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a room with carpet which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is perfect to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire home, and it did so with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a great cleaning job on various floors and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was great, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that appears much like a Roomba unit than the boxy models of the rivals. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a mix of modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an easy mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work or at night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and better-looking. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and some additional cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the bin of the automatic vacuum and mop, refills the water tank, and cleans and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its automatic vacuum and mop has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with the amount of dirt they are.

If you own a larger home, you should consider selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also useful. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad, which uses an oscillating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app also gives access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with a powerful 8000 Pascal suction as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. And you can set up a spot cleaning that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've examined. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive and a small base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
