What Freud Can Teach Us About Item Upgrade
WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades will give you a boost in certain stats. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. A random additional substat is also increased with every upgrade.
Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like the eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the need to roll to get a perfect version.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item upgrade is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to the enchantments.
You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.
The cost of upgrades will depend on the current level of the item upgrader mod being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased from NPCs of Item level upgrade upgraders for various currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor with the help of button, which displays an image of the item at the next upgrade item level in the event that the player has enough materials.
Upgrade costs differ based on the slot for the item and the current item level. For example weapons cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.
Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the chance to obtain the latest recipe. The discount for upgrades increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require several methods that are both an improvement and a drawback.
In Season 3 the upgrade system was modified a bit, and numerous new features added. After a player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This is even if the items are from an entirely different set of gear.
The discount is available to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players reach certain achievement milestones.
Crests
When upgrading gear in WoW players have a few choices. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.
The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be used to purchase equipment that is of a particular rank, and each rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, contingent on the kind of equipment being upgraded.
Players can earn crests by working through content at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in all difficulty levels to obtain lower-tier gear or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons that have a high difficulty for gear in the endgame. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader for the item upgrade like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.
The new currency system isn't complicated to use, however it brings some modifications to the upgrade process. Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.
Another important change is that crests only have one use and it's crucial to use them properly. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the top-quality equipment you can find and save Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly applicable to items like trinkets and rings that fill several slots. The discount for the entire account will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
