WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost in specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of the item by +3. A random extra substat is also added to every upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as valuable for those with lower requirements due to the need to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item upgrader kit used for the upgrade will remain in use for a long time and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current level of the equipment being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear from other sources. For instance, upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points while buying a similar item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor with the help of button, which displays an image of the item at the next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item and the current level of the item. For instance, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currency types.

Upgraders for items can be found at many locations including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and a possibility of obtaining the latest recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades must be acquired through a variety of means which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with several new features added. Once an upgrade has been completed to a specific level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level upgrade level, will cost less. This applies regardless of whether the items are from another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required to upgrade is reduced and the discount is affixed to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW players have a few choices. Flightstones are an item level upgrade that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests are only able to be used to purchase equipment that is of a particular rank, and that each rank has different requirements for upgrading. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, contingent on the type or equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities, or by doing dungeons or raids in all difficulties to get lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with heroic difficulty for endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader for the item like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it does bring some changes to the upgrade process. Once a piece of gear has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they have only one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the Best item upgrader equipment available and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning to create. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, that will be able to take advantage of the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
