20 Trailblazers Lead The Way In 3 Wheeler Buggies
3 Wheeler Buggies
A three-wheeler is perfect for rough terrain, offering a smooth ride for your baby. They are also easier to push and maneuver than a four-wheel buggy and are especially suitable for those with fabric slings or modular seat units, which are placed in a tight position within the frame and provide the most efficient geometry and distribution of weight.
Stability
Three-wheeled buggys are very stable, and this makes them an ideal option for off-road walks (especially when they are equipped with a seat unit that is all-terrain or off-road). They often feature oversized front wheels, which can cope well with bumps and kerbs as well as rough ground. Some have a lockable wheel in the front to give you extra stability when driving on uneven terrain.
It's important to keep in mind that 3 wheeler strollers-wheel buggies can have a lower center of gravity than 4-wheeled models, which can mean that they can tip over more easily. The most reliable 3 wheel travel stroller-wheeled pushchairs are designed with perfect design to ensure they stay stable in any condition. They should be able to turn at a single click and be easy to steer with one hand and have 360o swivelling front wheels that makes them great for manoeuvring and navigating difficult terrain.
For surfaces that are extremely challenging be sure to choose an air-filled model also known as pneumatic tyres. These are made to handle non-paved tracks and are able to deal with rocks, mud, etc. Many all-terrain buggies come with an swivelling wheel on the front that can be locked for extra stability when you're dealing with rough terrain.
A 3 wheeled strollers-wheel stroller is an ideal option for runners or for those who like to walk fast and uphill, particularly in the event that you're planning to connect an infant car seat or carrycot. The Roma Atlas is an excellent example. It has an incline-reclining seat that is flat, with 5-point harness and plenty of storage space to keep all your equipment (plus a 50+ extendable sun hood). It's light and compact, and is suitable for use starting at birth. It can be used in conjunction with a car seat or carrycot. It can also be used for light jogging but it's not designed for serious runners.
Weight
If you're looking for a vehicle that will take on tricky terrain, then you'll need one with big wheels. They are designed to tackle grass, cobbles and dirt tracks easily while providing smooth riding. They are also great for jogging, as they have built-in suspension and are easy to climb up and down kerbs. The trade-off is that they're a bit heavy to push.
The Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 is the most suitable 3 wheeled strollers wheel buggy to use on rough terrain (pictured above). This 3-wheeler has 16 rear wheels, and an swivel wheel lockable to the front, so it's very manoeuvrable. It has air-filled tyres which require pumping up from time to time. It can accommodate children up until the age of three. MFM reviewer Kath says that her toddler was awed by the shape of the seat and found steering it easy even with her three-year-old on board.
The Baby Jogger Versa GT is an alternative that is also a great choice. It comes with an adjustable handlebar, a high-quality hood that provides 50+ UV protection as well as an extremely high-quality hood. It's also simple to get up and down kerbs, and it can fit into small car boot. It can also be used as a pram, with an infant car seat for newborns and toddlers.
Fabric slings are placed within the frame and not on top of the frame like modular seats. This design has a lower centre-of-gravity, which is the right height. It is easier to push, and is lighter to kerb-pop (you don't know how many times you will do that as a new parent!).
Seating
The seating capacity of 3 wheel baby buggy wheelers is quite impressive, and there are a number of different options to pick from. The included carrycot plus is perfect for newborns (which MFM reviewer Alice describes as a comfortable and cosy lying-flat bed that can be used both in and out of the buggy). Older babies and toddlers will enjoy the spacious and padded seat with adjustable ventilation. It's worth noting that the seats do not recline completely however they can be lowered to the lowest position which will give your child plenty of headroom and space to move around.
A fabric sling seat is also available. It has the advantage of being placed snugly within the frame, rather than sitting on top as a modular seat and this gives a lower centre of gravity and a perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier to push, especially over bumpy terrain and curbs. MFM reviewer Kath liked the way this type of seat handled challenges.
This type of buggy has a large basket and other useful features such as an extendable hood with 50+ UV protection, an easy to use brake pedal, and a few innovative lights for visibility that can be positioned on the front of the passengers to increase safety on rough terrain.
Alternatively, if you are looking for a single buggy that can grow with your family There's the new sport(tm) that's a world's first that can take one baby from day one and adapt to take 2 or even three once your children have grown, all within the footprint of one buggy.

The 3-wheeled frame makes a buggy more stable to push with one hand and also perfect for handling difficult terrain. However, it means that the basket won't hold the same amount as a 4-wheeled buggy.
A high-quality ATP will come with pneumatic tyres, a cushioned grip for added comfort, and a superb suspension. It should be able to accept a carrycot or car seat, which means you can use it right from birth.
MFM's reviewers found that the 3-wheeler frame didn't pass through their doors at home or car boot. If you're worried about space, be sure you check the dimensions of the buggy when it is folded before buying.
It's worth looking into 3-wheelers that can accommodate 2 (or even 3 wheeled strollers!) This is the best option for your future and will save you money. The iCandy Strawberry Sport is among the most sought-after. It can be used from day dot as a single buggy and later converted into twin buggies after your baby begins walking.
Tyres
Air filled tyres are made to provide your child with an easier ride by cushioning out bumps and uneven surfaces. They are typically included on pushchairs such as the Phil & Ted's Sport that MFM reviewer Kath said offered "an exceptional ride for her toddler". She also said that the grippy tyres on it made it easy to navigate kerbs and cobbles.
These tyres can be difficult to maintain and will need to have their air pressure regularly topped up. They are also more vulnerable to punctures than foam tyres so it is essential that you have repair kits, spare inner tube and pump handy when out and about with your buggy.
PU tyres can be found on a lot more pushchairs than air-filled tyres, but they are still just as sturdy. PU tires are easily distinguished by their matte finish and soft feel. They also slide easily on even and tied surfaces.
You can usually discern the difference between PU and air-filled tyres by running your hand over each one, if it feels firm, then it's made of rubber, If it slides, then it's a PU. You can also check that your buggy has PU tyres by sliding the tyres over a clean, flat surface - they'll be able to roll easily and should fit comfortably in their wheel hubs.
Foam tyres are able to withstand the rough terrain that comes with high-performance buggies. This can make your buggy less stable since the foam will lose its springy quality. You'll also find that these types of tyres can often be noisy as they make a lot of noise when you turn and make your way around town.
