Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses, such as crit chance and PvE damage.

Components

Certain upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity of an item, allowing players create stronger versions with fewer Upgrade crystals than they would require to achieve the same level using standard methods.

A 'boost' upgrade can change the attack or defence characteristics of the weapon or armor. These upgrades are available to be made from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene, and defeats the Crazed Mechanic. They can also be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear, or by purchasing them in the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals.

Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a better-quality version of an item will be revealed at the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to continue upgrading their gear even if they're uncertain of how much they'll improve after a future reset.

The boost upgrade may be successful or not, the process may be expensive, and there is a significant possibility that the item will become obsolete or even break if it fails; a failure to upgrade can destroy the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item.
