Item Upgrade Explained In Fewer Than 140 Characters
Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
Item upgrade, also referred to as "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment provides a linear increase in a given stat.
Players can recycle up to six items at a time to gain an ability to gauge the level of each of the upgraded components. The cost of recycling a piece of equipment increases according to their rarity and level.
Upgrade components
In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade to an item is a method to boost the stats of your weapon and armor. This can be done through various methods that include using upgrade components and upgrading an item's mark level or rarity. In addition to this, many items can be reforged, which could increase their stats.
Upgradeable items are available throughout the game, both within the world and as rewards for missions. Players can also make them. The primary method to upgrade equipment is through the use of upgrade components, which are the items that can be inserted into equipment. Most equipment has upgrade slots, and most require a certain upgrade level. Certain upgrade components offer specific bonuses, while others offer a general bonus.
There are many types of upgrade components available in the game. These include universal upgrades, inscriptions and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gemstones and enchantments can be placed on any type of equipment and provide smaller bonuses than equipment-specific upgrades. Glyphs are only available in gathering tools. They offer a range of bonuses, from increasing the speed at which an item gathers to supplying additional crafting materials.
To upgrade an item, click it from your inventory and open the Upgrade window. The preview will be displayed on the right side of the screen. It will display the expected stats after the upgrade. The Upgrade button at the bottom will be labeled as Blocked if you don't have enough of or.
The number of upgrade components required for a particular item can be seen in the upper-right corner of the Upgrade window. The cost of upgrading increases depending on the rarity and level of the item increase. However, you can reduce this cost by purchasing upgrades from a seller, or trading them with other players.
Most weapons can be improved by a prefix such as a rune, or an insignia, and others can be upgraded with a suffix. These upgrades alter the name of the item and add an adjective, like "Radiant" or "Minor vigor. The only exceptions are the non-inscribable wands, the shields and foci from the Prophecies and Factions campaigns, which cannot be upgraded with any kinds of mods in any way.
Glyphs
Glyphs are a way to convey visual information. They animate in order to grab the viewer's eye and spark curiosity. The glyphs' animation mimics the body language, making them more effective in conveying a linguistic barrier-crossing message. Glyphs also create a sense of familiarity in the brain, thereby increasing retention of the message.
Each glyph can increase a stat's value by a specific amount. This is shown on the item's page when you open it in the Glyph Storage. This is the highest value that a glyph could enhance a stat by and not the amount it actually increases the stat by. The value of the glyph is contingent on the tier and quality of the item that you are admiring.
Most upgrade components inserted into items cannot be repaired or replaced without dismantling the equipment in question, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a glyph or rune you do not want to use, but it hasn't been applied to gear yet, you can transfer the item to a different piece by using the Upgrade Glyphs menu on the Glyphs Panel. This will create the new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.
If you wish to remove the glyph from an item you must save it using the help of a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. The item will be destroyed that it was installed in but you will be able to salvage the upgraded item by using the glyph and its fragments, therefore, it shouldn't be considered a loss.
A glyph added to an item could cause it to become unstable and the shards that are left of that glyph will disappear from your inventory when you dismantle the item. You can also place a glyph on your equipment to give it a bonus. For instance, the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and deal it slowly rather than all at once. This is helpful for those who take many hits from enemies, but don't want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens allow players to alter the affixes they use on their weapons and equipment and they can be obtained in various ways, including in mistery boxes, as a rare drop from skulled creatures, or even from killing bosses. Each reroll provides the player with a random affix that is usually better than what they had before. Reroll tokens can also be used to improve weapon stats for more damage or bonuses.
Rerolled items are not listed in the menu of item upgrades, but they can be upgraded. Rerolled items can be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button which alters the appearance of the window and allows up to six items to recycle. The level gauge is boosted by recycling an item. The amount is determined based on the item's rarity and also its level. Thus, items with higher levels are more valuable to recycle than those with lower levels.
In addition to tokens for rerolls, players can use Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to roll the weapon traits of an upgraded unit. Rerolls roll a percentage chance to determine a weapon's trait. If it rolls higher, then the weapon is upgraded. If it is lower the weapon is left as it was. Weapons can be rerolled up to three times.
A reroll is a good option to upgrade an item, however, players must be aware that it could reduce the total ilvl of the weapon due to the number of rerolls needed to increase it to its final ilvl. This effect is most noticeable on rings and Diadems, as they have no other options to increase the ilvl.
The Reroll system has been criticized by players as being too expensive, and it would be more fair to let people pay for it using money or food items which would allow players to modify their build without a lot of time and energy. However paying for rerolls is not something the developers are planning to incorporate at this point in the game's development. Instead, they're planning to add a race change potion in the near future.
Leveling
There are a variety of ways to upgrade an item. The first is to increase the upgrade amount which boosts the upgrade value of a given stat. The second is to boost the effect of an upgrade which increases the damage or heal of a specific stat. The base item can be upgraded to an advanced upgrade type. The upgraded item will keep its iLevel but be upgraded to reflect the effects of the upgraded item.
When upgrading your items, it is important to remember that upgrades aren't always planned. In the majority of cases, a better roll is determined by glyphs. However there are instances when a greater or special roll may occur. In addition the iLevel of the upgrade will be determined by the type of item, so when you upgrade a rare or unusual item to an exceptional item type, it will have a chance to achieve an increased iLevel.
Upgrades to items can be costly especially when you're upgrading an item of equipment from the standard to legendary track. The cost will depend on the item's base iLevel and the amount of upgrade levels it has. Additionally, certain upgrade tracks require crests in order to reach the next upgrade level.
If you're lucky the upgraded item upgrading will reach the maximum level on its upgrade track and unlock an additional effect. This will increase the item's upgrade value. The bonus effect changes with each upgrade level. In general, the effect of upgrading is increased a value of +3.
The iLevel will also change according to the upgrade path and base level. For instance an item that has been upgraded from a rare or unique item to an outstanding one is likely to gain the enhanced defense of the new base item.
