It features advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's the only robotic cleaner and mop mop or vacuum that has a perfect 10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.
As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings prior to work or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.
It's also quite expensive, but it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some additional cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.

If you have a bigger home, it's worth selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be extremely useful.
