The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you're at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on the amount of dirt they tend to be.

If you own a larger home, it's worth choosing a model that has spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also useful.
