WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for the latter due to the need to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item used to upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current item level of the equipment being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that are used to level up weapons tools, armor, and accessories. They can be purchased by players from NPCs of item upgraders for a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any tool, weapon or armor. The button will show a preview of an item upgrader kit's next upgrade level when there are enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item slot and the current item upgrade level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item upgrades has been upgraded to a certain level it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Upgraders for items are available at many locations including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and a chance to obtain the latest recipe. The upgrade discount increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades must be acquired through several methods that are both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was modified a bit, and numerous new features added. Once the player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level upgrade [research by the staff of Timeoftheworld] level will cost less. This applies even if the items come from an entirely different set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW players have a few choices. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

First, you should know that Crests are only available to equipment of a certain rank. Each rank comes with an upgrade path that is different. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, depending on the kind of equipment being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by completing content of the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons of any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons to obtain endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader for the item upgrader kit, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and routes.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too difficult however, the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, when a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to get their gear up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests in a wise manner, as they are only used for one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the best equipment you have, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to create. This is particularly applicable to trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which will only be able to benefit from the account-wide discount when all of the slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
