Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model) they employ smart mapping to create detailed floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with the feature of Carpet Boost that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet They are also adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well during our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can work while you're at work or going to school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for one that is wet in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic mop and vacuum robotic hoover for carpets, however it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to provide cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky models of the competitors. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic hoovers vacuum/mop to score 100% in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an easy mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work, or at night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient however, it's going to cost you more and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine, similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and cleans and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home based on how dirty the areas tend to be.

If you have a larger home, it is worth selecting a model with a zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you tell the robot which area of your house needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have lot furniture. Additionally, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would think from its price. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to create an automatic vacuum and mop spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
