The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums that we have tested. They have motors that are top of the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. And, like other premium iRobot models (including the top pick) they employ smart mapping technology to create precise floor plans and eliminate common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also come with carpet boost, a feature that increases the robot vacuums best's power when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned up quickly.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our bare floor tests and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our top option. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also quiet and can be used while you are at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot cleaner robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This top-performing mop and vacuum combination utilizes advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it learns your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can modify the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones using the app that is well-designed. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to remove and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is great to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to clean an entire home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on a variety of flooring and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums it, something hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competition. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored 100% in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with a simple mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.

It's also a bit costly but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable however, it's more expensive and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device that is similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and cleans and dries mop pads.

The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the best automatic vacuum cleaner works and alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to the amount of dirt they are.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home by using the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is useful if you have a number of furniture. Additionally, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd expect from its price tag. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a reciprocating motion that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app comes with a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
