Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also quiet and works while you are at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuum cleaners reviews we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with a simple mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however it will cost you more and produce more noise.

It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to set up a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app also gives access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
