It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few minutes.

It can even clean the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky models from the rivals. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score an exemplary 10/10 in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a problem in mornings prior to work or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and better-looking. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and some additional cost it's a capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection however this was not foolproof in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also has an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the home based on how dirty those areas are.

If you have a larger home, you should consider selecting a model with a zones or spot cleaning modes. The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance.
